Sugaring Off: 18th Century Style @ Senate House State Historic Site

Site Manager, Thomas Kernan, demonstrating how to make a wooden spile.

Demonstrations of boiling maple sap down to maple syrup, hearthside cooking, making jackwax candy, whittling spiles, hewing a log into a trough, and making wooden buckets. Music by Mark Rust, who plays a variety of instruments including banjo, guitar and the spoons.

Preparing for a New Year @ Senate House State Historic Site

Please join us while we plant our 18th century inspired vegetable and herb garden!  There will be demonstrations of sheep sheering, spinning and beekeeping. Children can enjoy an 18th century style magic show with “Levram: the Colonial Conjurer,” as well as learn how to make kites and play with 18th century toys and games.
